Art Therapy

Creativity is one of life’s biggest joys.

It stimulates and enriches those struggling with memory loss and opens alternate pathways for expression and recollection.  The ADRC’s Art Therapy Programs are led by professional art therapists.  They introduce projects appropriate for people with Alzheimer’s and other cognitive impairments, using a hands-on approach.

The result? An experience that engages people, helping them retain their sense of self.  The programs welcome family members and caregivers too, providing social connection and respite.

There are several ways to access ADRC Art Therapy Program throughout Long Island:

ADRC’s Off Site Art Expression Program

ADRC provides art therapy training to recreational therapists and others who work at a wide variety of assisted living, nursing and rehabilitation homes, veterans’ residences and other centers. These individuals are then able to extend the benefit of art therapy to those in their own communities.

Art Expression Programs are open to residents only.

Call Michele Payne, Director of Programs at 631.580.5100, ext. 304 for more information on training.

ADRC’s Annual Art Expression Extravaganza

Every year, ADRC hosts the Art Expression Program Tea & Art Exhibit.  It’s a special celebration for the Alzheimer’s artists and their family members to view, celebrate, enjoy (and even purchase!)  their creations.  Artwork is featured from participants in all of our programs.
